    The Retreat

“There are some people, who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.”

           - Douglas Everett

The sky is dim, and hazy. It exudes a dreary shade of gray, with dark and heavy clouds hovering all about. Continuous sounds of thunder add discomfort to the ears. Mighty skyscrapers cast their shadows, and darken the streets below. Feeble trees border the congested and polluted avenues. Plants all around are as dry as their soil. Flowers surrounding the city had already lost their vivacity. Grasses are no longer green as they should be. Streams of water along the road are as gray as the sky. Streets are clogged with traffic stretching as far as the eyes can see. Beeping of horns from stuck vehicles is deafening. Hot headed motorists only put gas to the fire.

This is reality. It is tough, it is rough. Still, nothing can keep us from breaking away from reality. Nothing can keep us from being in the ideal.

The sky is bright, and clear. It exudes a calming shade of aquamarine, with having a number of white and puffy clouds floating all about. Flocks of twittering birds dot the sky. Century old trees provide shade with their lush and green leaves that dance with the wind. Plants all around seamlessly blend with the foliage. Flowers surrounding the scenery add vibrancy and color to the thriving setting. Grasses all around are thick and green. Streams of fresh water are bound by rocks of different kinds. The flowing fresh water is as clear as the sky. Calming tunes from the flow of the streams add music to the ears.

There I am, all alone, lying carelessly on a soft recliner amid the vast expanse of serene greenery, thinking of nothing, worrying about nothing, and just appreciating the setting before me. The gust of the gentle wind is relieving me from all the pressures of everyday. The fine breeze is enough to clear my mind cluttered with day to day worries and responsibilities. I am filled with nothing but relief. My senses seem to unite with every object in my surroundings.

There I am, without any concept of time, doing nothing, but relaxing within the soothing setting. At my side is my ice-cold glass of lemon iced tea, and a neatly set plate of clubhouse sandwich that would surely satisfy my particular appetite.

Pure, tranquil, serene, calm, and still – these are the pleasant circumstances I will live with, day in, and day out, as I break free from reality, as I escape from the pains of everyday life. I have everything I need here to reenergize myself. What more can I ask?
